What's Going On

Welcome to our studio news page. What a busy time it has been. Its great to have had the privilege to work on so many great projects over the last months. We've pretty much covered it all. Here's a running list of the highlights


Local Singer-Songwriter Ken Anderson is currently in the studio working with Adam Greenberg on songs for an upcoming release.

Spartanburg, SC based rock band The Antibodies recently finished production of the new CD "To Catch A Thief" at Whitewater with engineer Adam Greenberg. Their third project completed at Whitewater, the new CD features their traditional catchy sound from straight-ahead rock to surf. Look for these guys in clubs around the Upstate SC area.

We've also been busy at Whitewater with various video -post projects as well as DVD authoring projects. Recent projects include DVD projects for Angel Award winning artist Judy Bailey to be released through Chapel Records, audio posting for Web-based content producer Career Corner, audio post-production for the TV show by Harvest Eating "Seasonal Cooking with Chef Keith Snow". Currently in production for the first 13 show season, the show is slated to appear on regional PBS stations sometime after Jan. 2010.

African artist Mamadou Diabate recently brought tracks to Whitewater for mixing with Engineer Adam Greenberg. The CD features traditional African instruments performed by Diabate's band in Africa. The project will be released on Diabate's current record label. Look for him at the Fall LEAF festival in Black Mountain NC.

Lenny Lopatin recently completed his second CD "Squarely Baroque" a collection of classical pieces played on square holed flutes that he manufactures at his company. The CD features a collection of higly technical solo pieces performed flawlessly. A Juliard graduate, Lenny also performs with various symphonies in the Southeast.

Local rock group Lake Effekt was recently at the studio working on pre-production with producer James Harley (Mudvane, QuietDrive) for an upcoming independant release.

Asheville Singer/Songwriter Virginia Wiatt recently finished her debut solo CD release. Featuring detailed acoustic guitar and soaring vocals, Virginia's sound has a strong "street" sensibility.

Michael Roy was recenlty working at the studio on his upcoming CD release "Blue Eyes".

ROCK THE CAUSE benefit CD for Special Olympics was released with a huge release party at the Orange Peel. Several bands from the CD appeared raising more than $3000 just at the show. Mastered by Adam Greenberg and mostly recorded at Whitewater Recording with tracks also recorded at other studios, the CD features songs from By Morning, The Broomstars, Colton Driver, Wilsin, Bugs Multiply, Hollowpoint, Josh Phillips Folk Festival, Velvet Truckstop, Artists of Color, Lake Effekt, Opus Grey, MindShapefist, Consciously Sedated, The Curbfeelers, and Scoot Pittman.

Columbia, SC based Colton Driver is currently finishing production of a new CD with producer Adam Greenberg at Whitewater. An 8 song collection of folky rock reminicent of the sytle of John Mayer. The recording features local Asheville music veterans Joey Moore on drums, and Marc McDaniel on Bass.

Local singing group Vision is currently recording tracks at Whitewater with Adam Greenberg engineering. The group has 8 female vocalists performing a collection of religeous songs with paino accompaniment utilizing Whitewater's antique Steinway piano. The vocal performances are stellar and should be quite a CD when completed.

Producer Daryl Griffin recently brought Massachusitts recording artist Keeta to Whitewater to record vocal tracks for an upcoming CD release. The Christian R&B project should be released sometime late in 2008

Long-time Carolina Beach Music veteran Jeffery Lynn Reid recenlty brought his project to Whitewater to be mastered by engineer Adam Greenberg. Reid is the genius who penned the long time hit, "Myrtle Beach Days" with his band years ago. The new project features Reid on all instruments and is a musical tribute to music he has peformed throughout his career. A real gem for "Shag" lovers

• Local Americana cowboy band "The Buckerettettes" recently brought their project to be mixed and mastered by Adam Greenberg here at Whitewater. The Buckerettes are Asheville City Councilwoman Robin Cape, Roberta Greenspan, and Deb Criss. This is a fun collection of original "Cowboy Songs" performed by this trio of incredibly talented women. A great ride! Look for a CD in the second half of 2008.

• Christian Country-Rock group Live Oak recently completed production of their second Cd titled "Someday". Featuring the lead vocals and songwriting of Ronnie Chapman. This project is an incredible assortment of finely crafted songs that are sure to inspire.

Singer Songwriter Tim Relleva recently recorded and mastered tracks for his upcoming Cd release titled "Superwave" at Whitewater with producer Adam Greenberg. Tim is a full-time raft guide in Hot Springs, NC and many of his tracks deal with the fun and danger of running the river as well as stories of Appalachian culture. A perfect project for Whitewater Recording...(get it?) A fantastic project from a very talented performer.

Asheville based story-teller David Novak recently had two projects mastered at Whitewater for upcoming Cd release.

Local Singer-Songwriter, Brie Capone recently came to Whitewater to record a 6 song Cd release produced and engineered by Adam Greenberg. Local drummer Joey Moore and bassist Marc McDaniel were enlisted to provide the backbone of the recording with other intrumentation handled by Greenberg. Brie will be attending the Berkely College of Music this fall on a scholorship. Way to go!

Asheville rock band Lake Effekt recently hired Whitewater to record and produce an DVD of their performance at the Orange Peel Club during the Make-A-Wish benefit concert in December. The concert was a huge success and raised thousands of dollars for Make-A-Wish. Whitewater recorded all the performances that evening of the other bands and also produced a concert video for the Sharkadelics, another fine Asheville rock group. The video was shot in Hi-def utilizing 3 cameras, an 8 foot crane cam, and a steady cam. Editing was handled by Joseph Nilo of Nilo Media.

Smashing Pumpkins recently did a long stayover in Asheville to open their US tour and Whitewater was chosen to be part of the process. XM Satellite Network hired Whitewater to handle recording exclusive interviews with the band for their show "Hard Drive". The hard drive crew met Engineer Adam Greenberg and assistant Justin McKinnan at the Biltmore Estate Hotel (where the band was staying). The inteviews were recorded with the band in a conference room at the hotel and should be on the air in a couple of weeks.

Asheville based progressive rock band Marsupial recently had their latest CD "Curtains" mastered at Whitewater by engineer Adam Greenberg. All I can say is, I LOVE these guys! Catch them at their CD release show at the Westville Pub on Haywood Road this month.

Brevard based blues band Hard Luck Story recently recorded a demo CD with Adam Greenberg at Whitewater. Fronted by X Chicago police officer Al "Big Al" Pfeiffer who performs vocals and guitar, these guys are one hot group! Catch them at clubs and festivals around the region.

Asheville based bluegrass band, Steel String Theory recently had their CD mastered at Whitewater by engineer Adam Greenberg. What a talented group! The project brought back memories of the new disolved New Grass Revival Band. Catch these guys at one of their locals shows while you still can!

Spartanburg, SC band The Marc Higgins Band recently had their CD "Runaway Train" mastered at Whitewater by engineer Adam Greenberg. A great collection of straight ahead rock tunes that will have you humming the hooks.

Video production company, Studio M, located in Waynesville hired Whitewater to record musical pieces for their DVD release "Spirit of America" the bulk of the music was recorded at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. The ASU Orchestra was hired to record the scored of classic americana songs. Vocal performances were added by Asheville's very own Baritone Barry Pate and Florida based singer Andrea Kramer. The project is available on DVD only and can be ordered directly on the web at americathebeautiful.com.

Legendary Reggae producer Carl Petterson (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh) recently awarded mastering tasks for a few of his projects to Whitewater's mastering engineer Adam Greenberg (Jeez, what a priviledge!). First came projects for Virgin Islands artist Alfred Gums, long known in the Carribbean for his roots style sound. Coincidentally, the project was titled "Roots". Then came a project for Los Angelos based Reggae band Cry On Cue fronted by long-time session player and performer Bernie Larson. (Larsen spent many nights on the road as lead guitarist for Melissa Etheredge.) All I can say is that the album "Heaven" is a must-have if you are a Reggae fan. Next came Miami based band The 4th Dimension. A fantastic roots-based group with a large membership and a big sound. Coincindentally, these folks were in the Asheville area during the summer for the "Reggae on the Mountain" music festival. Check em out when they come around the area again.

Stateville, NC recording artist Jacob Bowman recently finished up final tracks and mixing for the CD "NY 2 NC". The project was started in 2006 at Whitewater's previous studio in South Asheville. A few tracks were produced in New York and brough back to Whitewater for final mixing and mastering, resulting in a great name for the project. The pop R & B project will be available early in 2007.

Spartanburg, SC rock group The Antibodies were in Whitewater recentely recording tracks for their upcoming CD release. The 10 song project was the third release for the band and was produced by Whitewater's chief engineer Adam Greenberg. The CD was recorded mixed and mastered at Whitewater and is available on Cd as well as through Apple's Itunes store.

Sexton Media, a syndicated television production house located in San Francisco tapped Whitewater's experience to record audio segments for their show "Windshield America" airing on the Fine Living Network. Featuring show host Heather Templeton the sessions were directed remotely from San Francisco utilizing Whitewater's phone patch system. The show should be aring by January 2007

With the opening of our new facilty in Arden, we welcomed our first project with Jim Taylor and the gang from the Health Adventure Childrens Museum to produce their second children's CD titled "Momentum: Songs of Science". This is the second project Whitewater produced for the museum and features many of Asheville's finest players.

• Original Motown recording artist Sidney Barnes was at Whitewater Studios with his Good Time Band recording a 3 song single for an independent release. Sidney has recently called Asheville home and his band features some of Asheville's finest and man do these guys groove! Look for Sid and the Band on the local and regional club circuit. The new recording should be available for purchase in Spring of 2004 and fortunately the band is also planning on recording a full-length CD for a late release in 2004 which will be eagerly anticipated!

Recording artist Paul Golden AKA "Code Adam" has been in the studio working with producer/engineer Adam Greenberg on an upcoming CD release. Paul's clever songwriting coupled with the sound of straight ahead rock and roll combines to present a fresh modern sound that is winning fans over. The project is being shopped for a release in the second half of 2004. This project is destined for Pop radio!.

• Grammy award winning producer and enginner Bil VornDick (Allison Kraus, Bela Fleck, Marty Robbins, etc...) recently came to Whitewater Studios to record a Sony Records backed project entitled "Music From The Cold Mountain Region" with performances by some of the mountain regions's finest performers. The Cd will feature performances by Larry and Jenny keel of The Larry Keel Experience, Steve "Big Daddy" MuMurry, Malcombe Holcombe, Jack Lawrence, Don Pedi and Bruce Greene, Laura Boosinger, Ralph Lewis and The Sons of Ralph, Michael Farr, and David Holt. The project will be released internationally through Koch Distributing and should be available by Summer 2004. A real treat! Assisting on the project was Chris Scherbak.

•Asheville rock group Children of Evolution recently completed a 2-song project at Whitewater. The self-produced project features a hard-driving sound reminicent of Metallica. Look for these guys in local clubs as well as all over the Greenville/Spartanburg music scene.

•Nationally renowned speaker and author Brian Biro recently worked at Whitewater with engineer Adam Greenberg recording a series of short stories for CD release. Biro is known for his work as a professional coach and motivational speaker. He also recorded, edited, and mastered his book entitled "Through The Eyes of A Coach" for a multi-Cd release.

Solo recording artist Russ Burgess was back in the studio recording the follow up to his first album entitled: American Space with, you guessed it, American Space II. Russ's unique perspective on American Culture and tradition delivered with an honest integrity set him apart. Another great solo release sure to please all the fans back home in Lousiana. Look for Russ down on the Bayou.

• Nationally renowed performance poet Glenis Redmond recently released her new CD entitled "Glenis on Poetry", produced with the crew at Whitewater. This is Redmond's second recording project and first release that will be available on CD. Glenis is already back in the studio working on another release entitled "Monumental", which should be released sometime in the middle of 2004. Look for Glenis during one of her many touring engagements throughtout the east coast.


The J. Tomas Band recently recorded their debut CD entitled "The Ol Hotfoot" at Whitewater Recording. The project was co-produced with engineer Adam Greenberg and features vocalist extraordinaire Jamee Tomas. With strong groovin' blues-rock roots, Tomas is backed by bassist Rob Heyer, guitarist Forrest Smith and drummer Jor Sutton. The band is currently touring and supporting the new CD. Chapel recording artist and Angel Award-winning harpist Judy Wolter-Bailey recently mastered her latest release "Praise Harp Volume III" at Whitewater. Already a recipient of an Angel award in 2001, the new project earned her a second award during 2003. Both projects were mastered at Whitewater by engineer Adam Greenberg.

Country -Rock group Sweetwater is currently mixing tracks with engineer Adam Greenberg for an upcoming release. Featuring multi-instrumentalist Dale Meyer and a band of top flight players, this band's appealing sound is making them favorites throughtout the North Caroina/SC Piedmont area. Look for a release later in the year.

Regional Latin-Pop group Amanthes recently finished their CD entitled "A Cancion a Mi Madre". This was a follow-up release to 2001's "Impacto Latino". Produced by Victor Pereo and Miguel Ortiz and released by M-A-R-O Productions, this collection of tunes will get your feet moving and your heart racing! Based in Western North Carolina, these guys are on the move. Click here for a sample.

Folk-rock artist Grant Sparks recently had his project mixed and mastered at Whitewater with engineer Adam Greenberg. Many projects start life in home environments and this was no exception. Sparks brought the project to Whitewater to gain access to our creativitly and of course to mix on the Sony DMX console. Featuring a varied collection of country folk to rock, Sparks delivers a bright-eyed honest delivery that really hits home. Click here for a sample.

Hickory based Brothers Keepa recently completed tracks for an upcoming independant release. Combining the best elements of rap and R & B, The Brothers are getting a lot of attention from their first single "Myrtle Beach".

Folk music legend Janis Ian was in the studio recently to record a few songs (including her 1975 hit "At Seventeen") and an interview for National Public Radio's program The Infinite Mind. She happened to be in Asheville as part of an extensive tour, and invited the Whitewater crew out to the show. A great time was had by all.

• Asheville, NC rock band 5 Finger Discount recently finished their debut CD at Whitewater with producer Adam Greenberg. This four member group combines hard rock and roll with great pop sensibility. Try to catch one of their local or regional high-energy shows

Walt Disney Productions recently made use of Whitewater Recording's studios to hold casting auditions for an upcoming motion picture. The film is being produced by Disney's feature animation division and features a host of well known actors and performers. The auditions were held for pre-qualified child actors and were intended to find a voice for one of the main characters in the animated film. According the Disney post-production coordinator Leslie Moes, Disney chose Whitewater because of the studios large physical size and the great line of site between the control room and all recording areas. Disney also uses the SONY DMXR-100 console to handle post-production duties for their films . (Click here to read about Whitewater's new DMX-R100) Master tapes will be delivered in the DTRS format using Whitewater's 3 Tascam DA-88s.

• Irene Pyper-Scott and Peggy Seeger recently produced an interview and musical segment with Peggy's brother, folk legend Pete Seeger. Portions of the program were produced in conjunction with Pink Floyd frontman David Gilmour at his studio in London. Providing a lush symphonic orchestration for the piece was Hollywood composer Michael Kamen, famous for his scoring of movies like Mr. Holland's Opus, Robin Hood- Prince of Thieves, and the Die Hard and Lethal Weapon series.
